Find an Approved Solicitor on the Virgin Money plc Conveyancing Panel

Q and A’s regarding the Virgin Solicitor Panel

I have been advised by my broker that I have to pay Virgin fees should I instruct my family lawyer. How efficient are the Virgin conveyancing panel solicitors? I'm happy to use any solicitor in the country TBH as long as they're good and reasonably priced. Are there any Virgin conveyancers you'd recommend?
Virgin’s conveyancing panel is substantial so your best bet is just to check with the firms you are getting quotes from that they are on the panel. You can search by postcode on the search tool on this site to find solicitors that Virgin will allow to act for them.
can you help? My solicitor is advising me that he has to conduct a Local Authority search because the firm are on the Virgin approved lawyer panel. Is this really necessary?
You have limited options available to you. Given that you are taking out a loan with Virgin your lawyer has to comply with their conditions as set out in their version of the CML Conveyancing Handbook. Your lawyer would have previously signed the Terms and Conditions of Virgin’s conveyancing panel appointment which obliges them to follow the CML Handbook requirements last updated Virgin. even if you were a cash buyer you would be ill advised not to carry out a local authority search.
Whilst your website is a good idea there are many lawyers listed near Chelsea on the Virgin conveyancing panel. Can you recommend a specific firm on the Virgin approved panel?
We are not in the business of recommending one firm above another as the right firm for you depends on where your priorities lie. For example you may require a local firm with local knowledge or you might be looking for the low cost conveyancing. Before you appoint your lawyer we advise you to speak to two or three of the firms listed to gain comfort as to which one is right for you..
My conveyancers in Birmingham have advised me that no longer have my conveyancing file. At the time of my purchase I took out a mortgage with Virgin. Is it case that being on the Virgin conveyancing panel they need to have retained the file for a prescribed period?
It very much depends from lender to lender but many of the Terms and Conditions of Conveyancing Panel Appointment require the file to be held for a period of 6 years. That being said we have not seen a copy of the Virgin Conveyancing Panel Terms. It might be worth you contacting Virgin directly.
Is there a list of Virgin panel conveyancers on the CML Handbook Website?
No. There is no such tool on the Council of Mortgage Lenders or Building Society Association websites. Very few lenders make their panel listings available online.
How can we tell if a solicitor on the Virgin panel is any good?
seeking recommendations is a good starting point. Before you go ahead check if they offer a no sale no fee offer. Also you often get what you pay for - a firm which quotes more will often provide a better service than one which is cheap as chips. We would always suggest that you speak with the solicitor conducting your transaction
Can I register a complaint to Virgin about the lawyers being on the Virgin conveyancing panel?
Complaining to Virgin about their conveyancing panel is unlikely to yield much of a response. Every solicitor firm and conveyancer must have a complaints procedure. Usually one can find this information from the solicitor’s or conveyancer’s website or ask at their office. They must tell you about it if you ask.

The Legal Ombudsman will make sure that your complaint is properly dealt with by the solicitor. It can also advise you how to complain.

If a licensed conveyancer does not have a complaints procedure or will not tell you about it, contact the Council for Licensed Conveyancers (CLC), which will make sure that your complaint is properly dealt with by the conveyancer. Please see below for more information.
